Our Projects

Yangon and outlying districts (Dala)

A number of trips have been made to very poor areas within Greater Yangon, making smaller donations of food and helping rebuild houses.

Orphanage

We helped an orphanage/school, that has accepted many girls from the delta, to rebuild their desks and chairs.

Kunchangone

This trip was to deliver aid to 5 villages near the small town of Kunchangone, about 4 hours by road south of Yangon. The villages selected were those which according to local people had received little or no aid. Supplies were rice, oil, and lentils. 4900 Kg of rice were distributed.

Toe Myit

This trip delivered aid by boat to 6 villages some 3 – 4 hours by boat downriver from Kunchangone, near the mouth of the delta.

Supplies taken and distributed similar to the previous trip

Cape Negrais/Haingyi Island

This area is in the far west of the delta, where the cyclone first hit. We had discovered in a reconnaissance visit 11 villages that had received virtually no help, and where food was running very low, and houses had been badly damaged. Total population is about 12000 people. As a result we approved a major aid mission costing in total £10000. Supplies taken included included 17500 Kg of rice, 2000 cooking pans, 1785 blankets. 67 houses were completely rebuilt and many hundred others mended with bamboo and tarpaulins.

Bogalay

This is the most recent trip to an extremely poor area especially affected by flooding from the tidal surge. Bogalay is the regional town, 12 hours by overnight boat from Yangon. We bought supplies there to take to a remote area another 5 hours by boat. This included 150 49Kg sacks of rice, with which we fed nearly 1300 families and over 5000 people in 14 villages.
