Introduction

On May 2nd 2008, Cyclone Nargis made landfall in the Irrawaddy Delta of Burma (Myanmar), causing catastrophic devastation, with an official death toll of 138000, and widespread destruction of homes, rice-paddy fields, household possessions, and water supplies. To read more about the region and the damage inflicted by Nargis, see our Irrawaddy Delta and Cyclone Nargis section.

' Helping The Burmese Delta ' is a registered charity set up in response to this emergency, to bring direct short and long term aid to these very poor people. Take a look at Our Objectives to find out how we will address their needs.

The founders May Tha-Hla and Jon Wilkinson pay all the charity's running costs, so every £ of donation goes directly to help rebuild the lives and homes of people who were devastated by the cyclone. We have a full Team of volunteers both in the UK and Yangon (Rangoon) who are helping us achieve our objectives.

We operate on-line as far as possible, to recruit and communicate with our supporters. Find out how you can can Join/Donate to support our work.

Our aim is to focus our efforts on places and projects which have received little or no help from other aid agencies. Take a look at Our Projects to learn more about what we have done and where we have operated.

May Tha-Hla and our Yangon team are documenting in words and pictures the experience of providing aid on the ground. You can read May's Trip Reports and see the Photos of their recent trips.
